Foreign cultural programme of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council. Almost 100 events in over 20 countries!

15 January 2025

On 14 January, the foreign programme of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union was officially opened in Brussels. From January to June 2025, nearly 100 cultural events will take place in over 20 European countries under the slogan "Culture Sparks Unity". The programme prepared by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute will cover both the European Union member states and candidate countries, with the largest number of events planned for the capital of Belgium.

The inauguration of the programme was combined with the opening of exhibitions presenting Polish art, design and graphics in the buildings of the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament.

The exhibition will be available to visit from 14 January to 30 June 2025.

  • Alicja Patanowska’s installation We are the Weather (EU Council headquarters, Justus Lipsius building, Brussels)
The central motif of the installation is water – a symbolic source of life and a metaphor for inter-species interdependence. The work of Alicja Patanowska, a Polish potter, visual artist and designer, consists of three complementary elements that create a narrative about the need for cooperation and solidarity in the face of global challenges.
  • Alicja Biała’s installation Underneath the Hard Ground, Soft Ground (EU Council headquarters, Europa building, Brussels)
In the forum of the Europa building, Alicja Biała, a young Polish artist, presents an installation using the traditional copperplate technique – one of the oldest graphic methods involving etching a drawing in metal – presented in an innovative edition.
  • Presentation of Polish art from the collections of the European Parliament and Polish collections (European Parliament, Brussels)
The European Parliament will present works by Polish artists, creating a space conducive to reflection and admiration for the richness of nature. The curator of the exhibition, Aleksandra Kędziorek, selected works from the local art collection, enriching them with paintings borrowed from Warsaw galleries and private collectors.
  • Presentation of Polish design, graphics and illustrations at the seat of the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament (interior design: Katarzyna Baumiller, buildings: Justus Lipsius, Europa, European Parliament, Brussels)
The exhibitions of Polish art will be complemented by a space for relaxation and quiet work, specially designed by Katarzyna Baumiller, using the most interesting projects by contemporary Polish designers.

Polish cultural programme in the heart of the European Union. What will happen in the unofficial capital of Europe? The programme aims to promote the idea of solidarity and international cooperation. It presents the most interesting phenomena of the contemporary Polish art scene, putting the new generation in the foreground.
